MAKE: Watermelon slice sneakers for less than €5

Katie Mythen-Lynch

There’s an Indian summer on the way (don’t argue, it’s coming, we’re sure of it) so no need to put away the shorts and tees just yet.

In fact, we’re going one further and jazzing up an old pair of sneakers with a summery make-over for the weekend.

This cute DIY project will transform an old pair of shoes, but if you don’t have a suitable pair in the wardrobe, Penneys sell plain plimsolls for as little as €4.

While these are a ton of fun to make as a grown-up, it’s also a super idea for a kids’ party or get-together: buy or bring some inexpensive sneakers and let them decorate away to their hearts content, they can even model their creations later on!

Stuff you need: White sneakers, green and pink fabric paint, a black Sharpie, small paint brushes.

How to do it:

Step 1: Start with a simple line, the green ‘rind’ of the watermelon

Step 2: Add your pink tips, allow to dry

Step 3

Use the Sharpie to draw on the pips…

Step 4… Wear!
