The miracle-worker shampoo that is keeping my hair brass-and breakage free

Trine Jensen-Burke

Redken Blondage shampoo

Because who knows when I’ll next set foot in a hair salon…

These are desperate times, no? Especially when it comes to our normal grooming habits such as blow-dries or colour touch-ups every few weeks.

Having bronde/blonde hair, it’s the brassy thing that usually will send me running to the salon. And anyone who is blonde will know what I mean – maintaining highlights can feel like a part-time job almost – there really is only a certain amount of time that can pass before your blonde starts looking less bright and shiny, and more dull, tangly and brassy.

Luckily, though, I have managed to find a shampoo that really does what it says on the tin – it’s keeping my blonde hair from going brassy, and bonus, silky soft and well-nourished.

Say hello to Redken Color Extend Blondage Color Depositing Purple Shampoo – AKA the single best purple shampoo I have ever tried. And I have tried them all at this stage.

So how does it work?

If you are new to colour-correcting hair care, purple products neutralize warm tones in hair by depositing violet pigment throughout, cancelling out any orange, red, or yellow undertones that naturally appear in light hair colours (and which are what makes our hair look brassy after a while). The purple pigments will keep your colour looking ashy and light, almost as if you are using an at-home toner.

The beauty of it? You will extend your time between each visit to your colourist, meaning it will end up saving you both time and money – and frustration and despair now in these no-salon times too.

What I love about Redken compared to other brands I have tried, is that this shampoo feels super-gentle on my hair, and doesn’t leave it feeling dry or brittle or static, like so many others do. Ideally, you don’t need to use it for every wash, maybe just once a week or even once a fortnight, and you will see the result.

My hair colour, despite having not seen in the inside of a salon since the start of February, still looks glossy and clean, and by using the conditioner from the same series, I am also making sure it stays strong and nourished too.
