As a mum, you want to protect your children from the things that hurt them and you quickly learn that this isn’t always a physical thing. Sometimes the most hurtful things can come in the form of words.
Megan Naramore Harris from Kansas decided to write an open letter to a sales assistant after she told her teenage daughter that she needed Spanx.
The mother and daughter duo were out shopping for a formal dress when the teen agreed to try on a dress that her mother liked. It was after this that the sales assistant allegedly said she would need to wear Spanx with it.

Megan explained: “We left soon after. I wish I had told you how many girls suffer from poor self image and telling them they need something to make them perfect can be very damaging.”
“Girls of all ages, shapes and sizes are perfect because that is how God made them. If they feel good in a dress, that is all that should matter… You never know what negative or positive thoughts they are thinking about themselves.”
The mother also defended her decision to speak out, explaining that she did not want the sales assistant fired but merely wanted her and others to think about the potential damage their comments could have on a young woman.
