The very simple storage hack that’ll create more wardrobe space in minutes

create more wardrobe space

If you, like us, have spent a good chunk of this – and previous – lockdowns trying to organise and declutter your home, you are going to love this.

One problem I always find I have is that I have so many clothes that require hanging up, that I often struggle to fit the hangers into the wardrobe, never mind be able to move them around when I am looking for one specific top or dress.

Sounds familiar?

Well, then you’ll be delighted to know there is an easy way to multiply your wardrobe hanging space, and it only requires one thing: empty cans.

This genius, fashion editor-approved, wardrobe hack has been going viral on TikTok, and we think it’s pretty darn Marie Kondo approved:

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Start off by removing the pull tabs from a few empty cans. The amount you’ll need is determined by how much storage space you want to free up.
  2. Next, remove one of the hangers from your wardrobe and slip the pull tab over the hook on top of the hanger.
  3. Then, take another clothes hanger and hook it onto the other metal loop on the tab. As you go, you can see this immediately frees up space on the clothes rail, with your clothes hanging vertically as opposed to horizontally.
  4. You can repeat this process multiple times. Hang items in groups of three, which should triple your rail space without adding too much weight to the starting hanger.
