There’s one free thing you can do in your home to instantly make it look more expensive

We've been meaning to do this for a while...

We’ve all got years’ worth of clutter accumulated in our homes.

Anyone who knows what the KonMari method is or has read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up  will know that a good clear-out of all this stuff is good for your head, but did you know that it has another benefit?

Decluttering your home could add some serious perceived value to the space, making it look more ‘expensive’.

Whether you’re trying to sell your house or just want to wow guests, it’s worth doing, according to Australian interior design company Bowerbird.

They recommend ditching clutter and focusing on clean, spaces in neutral colours with the odd pop of colour.

“Neutrals feel calm, clutter-free and are classic,” the team told the Daily Mail.

‘Think floors, upholstery, fixtures and walls. Then use accessories to introduce bold colours and textures. The neutral base will let these hotter hues take centre stage.’

We all become attached to pieces of furniture but to others your favourite desk can look like junk.

“Old furniture that you’ve had for years or just haven’t got around to replacing can make your home look tired and dated,” Bowerbird say.

Another reason to get the black bags out and be ruthless with your clutter.
