Top tips from our fashion and beauty event at Dundrum Town Centre this week

HerFamily

Did you miss our amazing fashion and beauty event, just for mums? Don’t worry; we’ve got a little round-up of what went on. We hope to see you at the next event.

An audience of new mums and lots of gorgeous, fashion-forward babies gathered at @movies Dundrum and listened intently to the Dundrum Personal Style Team’s, Lorna Weightman and Laura Mullet give the best insider tips and knowledge on how to dress when you become a mum.

Their top tips on the day:

Get the basics right

First things first, you have got to invest in a good nursing bra. Then make sure you have a handful of good basics you can throw on after every baby puke, and most of all, the clothes that feel the most comfortable. Breathable fabrics and a supply of the same type of pieces you know you can always pull on and feel good wearing, regardless of how you are feeling.

Ath-leisure

You’re in luck, mamas, this is one of this season’s key trends. Now you can totally pull of the sporty look and be totally on-trend. Bonus.

Layering

Layering one item of clothing on top of another is a lifesaver if you are breastfeeding so you can wear all the tops your would normally wear but can pull them up or down for boob-access without having to completely expose yourself.

Kimonos and cardigans and jackets are your friend

A kimono, cardigan or light jacket will also help give you extra coverage if needed and if they’re easy to pull on or off, you can always wear one over a breastfeeding vest.

Patterns

Not only can a bold pattern help elevate your look on any given occasion, but it also hides tell-tale milk leakages and baby spit-up so much better than any plain coloured fabric will.

Sue from Stila was also there to give brilliant make-up tips for getting ready in 5 minutes flat! She gave a brilliant live demo on how to achieve flawless make-up in a jiffy using the amazing Stila products. Hair stylist Danielle from the blow dry bar at Harvey Nichols, gave some brilliant tips for mums – the main one is ALWAYS to have dry shampoo on-hand and a good finishing spray (shine and hairspray together) and a dry oil, she did some great GHD curling tips for when time isn’t on your side, and you need to smarten-up.

Next week’s FREE and exclusive event in Dundrum Town Centre is on Tuesday the 14th of February at 9.30am at the baby cinema in Movies@Dundrum in the Town Centre.

We have Leisha McGrath, Occupational Psychologist and Mum coach on hand to give FREE advice for saving your sanity as well as practical advice and organisational skills.

The event will also be presented by Psychologist and HerFamily mum, Alison Bough who will talk you through how to maintain some life balance when baby comes along and some tips for boosting your confidence in the workplace after maternity leave.

You bring the baby (or bump), and we will bring the coffee. Phone a friend and make it a date. We look forward to sharing the advice as well as the love (It is Valentines day after all)
