As the parent of a toddler, I’m panic buying Percy Pigs not toilet roll

Melissa Carton

We’ve all got our priorities.

Schools across Ireland are set to close, as are childcare facilities and that means only one thing, snacks, lots and lots of snacks.

It’s a rare occasion where I get more than 30 minutes without my toddler asking for cheese or a banana or her favourite treat, Percy Pigs.

I know now that both herself and her brother will be home all day for the foreseeable future I’m going to inundated with snack requests which is why toilet roll is not really the thing that I’m running to the supermarket to buy.

Only today as I looked in the fridge and realised that my daughter had eaten the last of her Petits Filous did it sink in that we might be need to stock up on the essentials.

By essentials I of course mean spaghetti hoops, fish fingers, potato waffles, BabyBel, Petit Filou, rice cakes and of course the main man himself, Percy Pig.

Oh and one very other important, non-snack related item, nappies, lots and lots of nappies.

My two year old is in the process of being potty trained but the pull ups are very much still necessary.

I feel in general parents will have different priorities when it comes to stocking up for the next couple of week, especially if they have babies that are formula fed.

Of course toilet roll is great to have, I’m a big fan of it myself, but I don’t think we need 500 rolls of it. A good nine pack is grand for now.

It is important to remember while stocking up to look out for other parents and leave a few bits of the shelves for them too.

With the announcement only earlier today only earlier today that all schools and creches will close of course parents will be anxious to get some extra shopping in but as it stands all shops are to remain open so there’s no need to get too worried about having enough at home.
