romantic Irish hotels

We’re already nearing the end of January, guys – and that means one thing: Valentine’s Day is only around the corner.

Yeah! Love is in the air (again!). And fear not if your budget doesn’t quite stretch to Barcelona or Bali; there are plenty of romance to be found right here on our own doorstep.

Get ready to pencil in some much needed alone-time, parents – for we have rounded up five of the absolute most romantic hotels in all of Ireland:

1. Malmaison Hotel, Belfast

This could very possibly be the very sexiest hotel on the entire island if you ask me. Think moody colours, huge comfy beds, and freestanding bathtubs.

Once a seed warehouse, the Malmaison has been fashionably converted into one of the swankiest hotels in Belfast, and puts you right in the centre of this incredibly vibrant and up-and-coming city.

And don’t even get us started at the cocktails at the Mal Bar (YUM!), or the food they serve at the hotel restaurant Brasserie (SO good).

Don’t forget to go exploring, though, much as you will be tempted to stay within the walls of the hotel for your entire stay. You are a mere stone’s throw away from Victoria shopping centre and the bustling Titanic Quarter, as well as some of the most amazing bars and restaurants in the city.

2. The Westbury Hotel, Dublin

If you fancy your romantic break to be of the urban variety, look no further than Dublin’s stunning 5-star Westbury Hotel.

This romantic luxury hotel is located just off Grafton Street, meaning you have Dublin and all its shops, bars, restaurants, and nightlife at your doorstep.

And if you just want to hibernate once you get here, rest assured you will be doing so in the utmost comfort. All of the hotel’s 205 rooms are kitted out with Nespresso machines, minibars, and elegant bathrooms, and even the standard rooms are generous in their size.

Plonk yourself down in some of the comfy sofas, enjoy afternoon tea and do grab Sunday Brunch at the hotel’s restaurant, Balfes, before you leave. We can pretty much guarantee you’ll be back.

4. The Twelve Hotel, Galway

If you are looking for a sexy, intimate and truly luxurious hotel, head west to Barna, on the west coast between Galway and Connemara.

We love the elegantly understated decor with wooden floor, dark purple sofas and statement wallpapers, think comfortable lux
rather than over-the-top and opulent.

Sink into the cosy seat in the hotel bar, re-discover your romance over a delicious dinner and retire to your luxurious room for some much-needed R&R.

5. Ballynahinch Castle Hotel, Connemara

The wild, unspoiled beauty of Connemara sets the backdrop for this gorgeous and truly romantic hotel – perfect for a weekend away when you just want to focus on each other.

This 40-room Ballynahinch Castle Hotel is a less formal, more accessible alternative to the more famous Ashford Castle, complete with decor that manages to be both homey and elegant. While more a manor house than a castle, the main building dates back to the 18th century and both the building and the estate are steeped in history.

Don’t even think about leaving without having enjoyed the restaurant’s exquisite cuisine using locally sourced fish, game, and mushrooms from the surrounding region.
