A toddler from Ohio has been being brutally attacked by two family pit bulls

16-month-old Kavay Louis-Calderon was being minded by her uncle on Sunday morning. The police report says the man stood on the screened-in porch of his home having an argument with a woman he knew, which caused the dogs to become “agitated” inside the house. He went back inside when he heard the child screaming.

Kavay was still alive, when first responders arrived at the home. Paramedics and doctors did everything they could to save the toddler, but her injuries were too severe.

According to neighbours, the dogs were known for being aggressive, having attacked a postal service worker this summer.

The girl’s family are understandably heartbroken at Kavay’s loss and torn apart by the circumstances surrounding her death.

Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett said: “This is a nightmare that they’re going through. They’re destroyed by this, they’re absolutely destroyed by this. Nobody wanted this to happen to this child.”

The debate about whether certain breeds are safe around children is one that rages on. Many would attest that pit bulls and similar breeds make fantastic pets are are great around their babies and kids. And of course there are those who are weary, for valid reasons.

Whatever your stance, the universal advice from every source is never to leave a child alone in an animal’s company.
