We could not be more excited!

If you were looking for a silver lining in what has already been a tough year then we have some very good news.

It has recently been revealed that not only are we going to get a third season of Derry Girls but it’s actually going to start filming this year!

Derry Girls

Nicola Coughlan who plays beloved Derry Girls character Clare Devlin put out a very excited tweet that she and the rest of the gang are due to start filming.

Coughlan posted a clip of the cast dancing in the finale episode of season one along with the message;

“Can confirm Series 3 of Derry Girls is filming this year and I cannae bloody wait.”

This announcement from the Galway native comes only a month after Coughlan revealed that she has read the script for season three of the popular show.

“I spoke to Lisa McGee recently and she talked me through the storylines.

They’re so brilliant, which doesn’t surprise me – she’s just incredible – but it made me want to do it right now. “

We haven’t had a new season of Derry Girls since 2019 due to Covid related restrictions and we are absolutely buzzing with this news.

The last season saw the group almost lose one of its core members and there were also hints that there could be some sparks flying between a couple of the main characters so we’ll be interested to see what the next season has in store.

2021 is turning out to be a very exciting year for Coughlan herself as she also stars in Bridgerton which is currently the most watched show on Netflix.
