A new dad missed the birth of his daughter after fainting and banging his head.

Ben Burgwin was waiting for his partner Amy Maddocks to give birth to their child when he got so overwhelmed he collapsed and hit his head.

Mum-to-be Amy had been experiencing a nine-hour labour to bring their daughter, Amber Rose, into the world when the incident in question occurred.

The moment was documented on Channel 4’s One Born Every Minute and resulted in Ben having to be brought to his own hospital room to recover.

He was there for fives hours and, unfortunately, missed the birth of his daughter.

He said:

“They made me stay down and then I had to go to A&E to make sure I hadn’t done anything serious to myself.

“I think they were worried about concussion or something more sinister, but it took a while to get me seen and sorted and back to Amy and Amber Rose. I felt like a right idiot.”

The new dad eventually made it back to Amy and his daughter, where the family were only delighted to be together again.

A recent survey conducted by conducted by Nelsons Arnicare showed that 5 percent of new dads faint when their partner is giving birth.

This led to 11 percent of women wishing that they had opted to give birth alone.

Ouch.

Ben’s and Amy’s episode of One Born Every Minute will be broadcast on Channel 4 on March 14.
