The Dublin vintage stores where Marianne’s covetable Normal People clothing came from

Connell’s chain may have grabbed the headlines – and was even granted it’s own Twitter emoji this week – but it’s not the only sartorial choice that people have been noticed about Normal People.

There’s been a slightly less vocal appreciation for the clothes worn by Marianne, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones, in the hit series. Marianne’s wardrobe includes lots of delicate vintage pieces, from gently ruffled blouses to delicate cotton dresses, that we are swooning over.

Even British Vogue is citing her as a summer style inspiration.

Many of the pieces for the series were sourced at Jenny Vander, which is appropriately not too far from Trinity College in Dublin City centre.

For those not already familiar with the name, it’s Ireland’s oldest vintage store – opened in 1974 – and it’s an absolute treasure trove of beautiful clothes, bags and jewellery. And the dresses, oh the dresses… We could happily live out our days inside the tiny Drury Street store.

Normal People has featured six different looks bought from Jenny Vander, which the store’s owners highlighted on their Instagram. The pieces date from the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s – and as the owners have been keen to point out after enquiries from the public, each is a one-off vintage find with a price tag to match.

We’re particularly smitten with Marianne’s coral cocktail dress, which according the the store was made in France in the 1940s.

Here’s our shop photo of the coral dress worn by #marianne in #normalpeople I have being inundated with people trying to buy the dress. Unfortunately I don’t own a time machine that could transport me back to 1940’s France..although that sounds lovely. …. The whole essence of vintage is we only have 1 of each piece. My customers get this xx Kim kardashian….not so sure. #jennyvander #jennyvandervintage #nofastfashion #sustainablefashion #dressedondrurystreet #creativequarter #vintage #dublinvintage #vintagedublin #ootd #vintagecouture #vintagefashion #vintageclothing #antiqueclothing #since1974 #vintage50sfashion #originalandbest #dublinsoldestvintagestore #vintagecostumejewelery #vintagepearls #dublintown #lovindublin #d2

The Harlequin is another vintage fashion lover’s paradise, which is located near to Jenny Vander on Castle Market. It was also the source of some of Marianne’ looks in Normal People, including the wine velvet jacket featured in the post below.
