This looks incredible.

Netflix is adding another intriguing story to its long list of documentary series and this time, it’s all about one of the most famous and enigmatic artists of the 20th century – Andy Warhol.

The Andy Warhol Diaries attempts to illuminate the man behind the mystery through interviews with friends, collaborators, admirers, and the artist’s own words.

The six-part series has been directed by Andrew Rossi and produced by American Horror Story’s Ryan Murphy.

It will not only explore Warhol’s career in the art world in the sixties, but look into parts of his life that are typically left unexamined – such as his “romantic longings and spiritual side as a living, breathing gay man”.

What’s more, the story will be told through his own words and narrated with his own voice – well, kind of. The filmmakers used cutting-edge A.I. technology to bring the the artist’s voice to life.

Warhol was known for being very private about certain parts of his life, which was one of the reasons Rossi felt compelled to use the artist’s own voice when exploring his story.

He then worked with an AI company to create a text-to-speech algorithm that would clone Warhol’s unique Pittsburgh accent.

“Andy Warhol was famously guarded about his personal thoughts and opinions,” Rossi told Entertainment Weekly.

“That’s one reason his Diaries are such a rare and fascinating window; he could be incredibly raw and emotional…

“To fully appreciate the radical vulnerability that Andy shares in the Diaries, I felt that we needed to hear the words in Andy’s own voice.”

He added that the documentary portrays Warhol in a way no one has ever seen him before.

“I try to bring iconic subjects down to earth and understand them on a human level.”

The Andy Warhol Diaries lands on Netflix on 9 March.
