This chocolate mousse is the ULTIMATE healthy treat

You've been positively saintly all week. You've stuck to the 30 Day Bikini Body Blitz, never deviating, except for that one Malteser teased from the sticky grip of a toddler.

You want a treat. You deserve a treat. But ask yourself this: can you handle a treat?

The concept of a mid-fitness programme treat day is a tricky one. If you are the type of person who can be trusted to have a treat (one treat only) without dancing off into the weekend leaving a merry trail of cookie crumbs, crisp packets and wine bottles in your wake, then good for you.

For the rest of us, the 'little treat' can lead back to the dark side; the cosy comfort of the takeaway menu drawer; the bright lights of the Lidl in-store bakery.

The trick? Plan ahead. You need to have something to hand that will distract Future You when the cookie craving hits. This can't be something bland or boring. Future You will laugh in your face. Then stuff it with chips.

The treat must be something healthy that looks and tastes like something entirely decadent. Enter Peanut Butter Avocado Chocolate Mousse: a dessert so creamy and delicious that even your kids will be conned provided you keep the ingredients to yourself.

Future You will never guess (the fool!) and your fitness goals will remain intact for another week.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 ripe avocados
  • 1 large ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa or cacao powder
  • 1/2 cup salted creamy or crunchy peanut butter + more for topping
  • ~1/2 cup sweetener of choice i.e. maple syrup or honey
  • ~1/4 cup almond milk or other non-dairy milk

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Add all ingredients into a food processor and blend until creamy and smooth. Add more dairy-free milk to thin/help blend. Add more cocoa powder for a richer chocolate flavor. Add more sweetener of choice to enhance sweetness.
  2. Divide between 6 small serving glasses, cover with plastic wrap (pressing the plastic wrap down on the pudding to prevent a skin from forming) and chill for a few hours, or overnight.
  3. Before serving, top with Greek yogurt and drizzle of salted peanut butter.
  4. Leftovers will keep in the fridge up to a few days, though best when fresh.
