Welcome to week 31 of your pregnancy! This week, your baby is as big as a bunch of asparagus. Here's what else you can expect this week.
Your baby
Your baby, now around 41 centimetres long and weighing about 1.5 kilograms, is working hard to prepare for the outside world. Their immune system is getting a boost from your antibodies. Your baby's brain is developing rapidly, forming those vital connections. Baby can already recognise light and dark now, too.
You
You're getting closer to meeting your baby. Your growing bump might lead to shortness of breath and heartburn, but that's par for the course. Supportive bras can help with backaches, and regular walks can ease discomfort. With swollen feet and ankles, elevate your legs when you can. Sleeping can be a challenge, so consider a pregnancy pillow. Remember to take time for yourself, if you're able – pamper yourself with a good book or soothing bath. Top preggo tip, too: Stay ultra hydrated to help keep Braxton Hicks contractions away, it really helps.
Anything else?
As you inch closer to your due date, it's smart to be ready. Pack your hospital bag with essentials for both you and your baby. Don't forget to review your birth plan, discussing any concerns or preferences with your healthcare team. In Ireland, it's estimated that around 1 in 7 women experience postnatal depression, so having a support network in place can make a world of difference. Speak to your GP or midwife if you think you might need support in that regard, there's so much available from the maternity ward onwards.
