Looking for inspiration?

Settling on the perfect name for your little one can be tough, at the best of times.

After all, you want it to be something unique to your little one. But not so unique that they end up spelling it out for the rest of their lives.

But, also, you don’t want it to be so common that they will end up sharing a name with half of their classmates when they reach school-age.

Like we said, tricky.

Thankfully for any parents-to-be, the folks at Nameberry have come up with a list of the biggest baby name trends for 2019 – and here are some of our favourites.

The letter ‘U’

It hasn’t featured in any baby name trends in a veryyyyyyy long time (okay, basically forever), but the letter U is going to be big in 2019. The vowel and its oo sound feature in a number of seriously stylish names that parents-to-be just can’t get enough of,  like Tallulah; Reuben, Luna and Jude.

A new set of hues adding colour to names

Colourful baby names have always been popular, and that’s showing no signs of slowing down. However, experts reckon there’s going to be a move form the vibrant names like Scarlett and Ruby towards more muted and softer shades – à la Grey, Fawn, Ash or Olive.

Keeping names short but sweet

Experts are predicting that short-but-sweet baby names are going to be where its at for 2019, with the minimalist three-letter monikers – like Kit, Jem, Rio and Lux – set to storm the naming charts over the next 12 months.

Celebrity surnames as first names

Celebrities are often a source of inspiration when it comes to baby names – and have been for a very, very long time. But next year is set to take the trend in a totally different direction, with celebrity surnames – like Jolie, Monroe, Lennox and Hendrix – expected to be trending as a first name option for boys and girls.
