Karlie Kloss has named her son Levi – are biblical baby names having a moment?

Laura Cunningham

Karlie Kloss welcomed her first child, a baby boy last month.

The American supermodel revealed her son’s name on Instagram with the simple caption, ‘Levi Joseph 3.11.21’, alongside an adorable photo of her holding Levi’s tiny hand.

Levi is a beautiful Hebrew name, meaning ‘joined’ or ‘attached’ and it’s just one of many biblical names having a resurgence at the moment.

We may know these names from the bible, but you don’t have to be super religious to love them.  In fact, we bet you didn’t even realise some of them were biblical.

Here are twenty of the most popular right now, including some classics that never went away.

1. Ethan

Ethan means strong and firm — a solid start.

2. Zach

Or Zachary, if you like. A name that’s grown in popularity in Ireland in recent years.

3. Jacob

This one’s one of our faves.

4. Noah

The ark guy? Your baby’s bound to love animals if you call him Noah.

5. Eli

Meaning ‘uplifted’, Eli is another gorgeous name recently embraced by Irish parents.

6. Isaac

Isaac means laughter — how gorgeous?

7. Ezra

In the Bible, Ezra led a group of Israelites out of slavery – not a bad guy to be named after?

8. James

In 2020, James was the second most popular boys name in Ireland according to the CSO.

9. Jonah

Just the right mix of unique and classic.

10. Luke

If someone doesn’t say ‘Luke, I am your father’ at some point, it’s a missed opportunity tbh.

11. Joshua

Another name that’s increased in popularity in Ireland in the last decade.

12. Hannah

Would you believe Hannah is the 7th most popular girls name in Ireland?

13. Matthew

There are countless cute nickname options with this one.

14. Adam

An all-time classic.

15. Sarah

Once the most popular girls name in Ireland for years running, it’s popularity dropped for some time… But she’s making a comeback.

16. Jaden

We’re cheating with this one, as it’s spelled Jadon in the bible. Jaden, although still unique in Ireland, is slowly growing in popularity.

17. Daniel

The fourth most popular boys name in Ireland, last year.

18. Eve

Eve, Eva, Evie — we love every variation of this Garden of Eden-inspired name.

19. Rachel

You’re forgiven if you think ‘Friends’ rather than bible, when you hear the name Rachel. Rachel means ‘rare’ or ‘special, and your child’s name would be just that, as Rachel comes in 115th in the list of girls names in Ireland last year.

20. Thomas

This name means ‘twin’ — ideal if you’re having multiples.
