Kristin Davis says SATC reboot would “never disrespect” Samantha

Laura Grainger

“There is respect.”

In the run-up to the release of the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That, the cast are being inundated with questions about what the show holds for each character – one maybe a little more than others.

Everyone wants to know what the story is with Samantha after it was announced that Kim Cattrall would not be reprising the iconic role.

But in face of the many theories surrounding how Samantha would be written out of the show, including fears she’d be killed off, Kristin Davis wants fans to rest easy.

Kristin, who plays Charlotte, appeared on Today to discuss the reboot airing on Thursday in the States. When asked if the show will explain Samantha’s absence, she confirmed it would and made the cast and crew’s love for the character crystal clear.

“We love Samantha. Samantha is never not going to be a part in some way,” she said.

“There is respect for Samantha, there is… It’s part of the story. We would never disrespect Samantha.”

Showrunner Michael Patrick King previously addressed rumours that Samantha or Mr Big were killed off, telling The New York Times that “nobody’s dead.”

Earlier this week, Mr Big himself weighed in on Kim’s decision not to return.

In an interview with the Guardian, Chris Noth said he has “no idea what her thinking is” and respects her decision, but that he “was not happy” about the actress publicly airing her issues with his on-screen partner, Sarah Jessica Parker.

“I do know that I’m very close with SJ and [Kim’s] descriptions of her don’t even come close,” Chris told the Guardian.

“I liked her, I thought she was marvelous in the show and some people move on for their own reasons. I don’t know what hers were.”

Rumours the two women didn’t get along behind the scenes were rife from as early as the mid 00s, but their feud was publicly confirmed in 2018 when Kim’s brother passed away.

SJP posted condolences on Kim’s Instagram, which Kim implied was done for publicity and accused her of being “cruel” and a “hypocrite”.

The pair’s infamous falling-out is set to be incorporated into the reboot, with Carrie and Samantha said to have had a huge blow-up after Carrie fired Sam as her publicist.

“I just wish that whole thing had never happened because it was sad and uncomfortable,” Chris continued, adding that he doesn’t “like to see anyone talking down about SJ because she’s a target and people can be nasty.”

“I feel very protective of her and I was not happy about that. That’s all I’ll say about that,” he said.
