5 activities the kids will actually enjoy over midterm break

Kat O'Connor

Can you believe the kids will be off school for another week?

We love having them at home for the midterm, but we’ve run out of ways to entertain them.

We’re tempted to leave them in a room with Cocomelon on loop and a mountain of Easter eggs, but that’s probably not the wisest idea.

If like us you’re struggling to think of some activities that they’ll genuinely enjoy then don’t worry.

We’ve come up with a list of things to do that the kids will actually enjoy.

There are only so many crafts that will keep them quiet so check out our suggestions below and then thank us later.

Host your own Bake Off

If there’s something that will keep the kids entertained is letting them run havoc in the kitchen.

Why not host your very own Bake Off competition? It’s something all the family can get involved in and it’s the perfect rainy day activity.

If Paul Hollywood wouldn’t approve of your baking skills then don’t worry, you can fly down to The Natural Bakery.

You can buy a box of Red Velvet Easter Cakesicks for €20.

The kids will be too busy devouring them to even question where they came from.

Hop Along to Union Café

Union Café in Dublin’s Mount Merrion will be a buzzing hub of activity this Easter. Located adjacent to Deer Park’s playground, it is the perfect place for families (of the human or canine variety).

There is a tonne of stuff happening at Union Café this weekend, but one thing you can’t miss is the petting zoo.

On Easter Saturday, April 16th Union Cafe will host a free petting zoo from 12-3pm. Bunnies, guinea pigs, sheep, goats, pigs, and much more!

On April 23rd, there will be a clown and family entertainment from 12-2pm.

Not only that, but there will also be free ice-cream cones for kids (with any kid’s meal purchased), face painting (Friday 8th – Sunday 24th), and a colouring competition to win family passes to Stella Cinemas (under 13s – from Friday 8th) throughout the Easter break.

The Stella Cinema

If you really want to treat the kids (and yourself, of course) then you need to visit The Stella this weekend.

The luxurious cinema is the perfect place to spend a rainy day.

Located in Rathmines, the popular cinema is showing a tonne of family-friendly movies over the Easter break.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 starts on Friday, April 8th and runs throughout the school holidays.

The iconic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is also screening today, April 15th.

Tickets: Adult: €19, Child (under 14): €10, Seniors (over 65): €15
