Nikki Reed has told how her husband Ian Somerhalder “threw out” all her birth control pills when they decided to start a family.

The couple, who welcomed a daughter named Bodhi Soleil, opened up about how they decided to start a family on the Informed Pregnancy podcast.

They were in Barcelona with some friends in 2016 when they all decided they wanted  to have kids at the same time.

And the Vampire Diaries actor explained that “unbeknownst to Nikki”, he went into her purse and popped out her birth control pills.

He said:

“It was the beginning of the pack – I had to pop all those suckers out.”

The Twilight actress joked that she initially freaked out while she was watching her husband flush the pills down the toilet, as their couple friends filmed it.

The Lost star said their friends conceived “that night” – and now the other couple’s daughter is like a “big sister” to Bodhi Soleil, as there are only four or five months difference between them.

He added:

“Actually, now thinking about it, I guess I kind of decided [to start a family].”

The couple tied the knot in April 2015 in a ceremony in Malibu, before welcoming their first child in July this year.

But Nikki confessed she had trouble when it came time to pick between a hospital or home delivery.

She added on the podcast:

“The birth that I always wanted was a home birth with no lights, no one talking, no intervention of any kind.

“I wanted to be peaceful, quiet, alone.”
