'I didn't know if I'd ever become a mother.'

Andrea Corr has been praised for speaking candidly about suffering multiple miscarriages on last night’s Late Late Show.

The singer, who is now mum to two kids, told host Ryan Tubridy that she worried she would never have children.

“I had five miscarriages, I had two before I was blessed with Jeanie and Brett, and then I had another three,” she said.

“I think the first two were the most difficult obviously because I didn’t know who I’d be blessed with, I didn’t know if I’d ever become a mother.

“It was painful because you’ve got that hope, you immediately dream of this baby, it happens so quickly, it’s crazy how our minds think, and our hearts. But I’m so lucky, ultimately.”

Continuing, Andrea said she was glad she’d shared her story as she’s found that others relate to it.

“It is strange why we’re shy about it. What do we feel? Do we feel we’re not right or something?

“Maybe is there some embarrassment, is there some shame about it? Which there shouldn’t be.”

In the interview, she also spoke about the effect the loss of her brother Gerard as a child had on her family – “his absence was present in everything” – and about grief following her parents’ deaths.

Andrea’s story struck a chord with those watching at home.
