Rita Ora admits she had her eggs frozen in her early twenties

"I just wanted to really be safe."

Would freeze your eggs? Have you already?

It’s a divisive issue – given the chance (and the cash) many young women would like to, while for the others the idea doesn’t appeal at all.

Now Rita Ora has admitted that she had her eggs frozen a few years ago.

The 26-year-old singer told Australian TV show Sunrise that her GP encouraged her to do it.

“Me being 27 soon, I thought about this when I was in my early 20s, about kids.

“Maybe that is me being a hypochondriac, but I have always wanted a big family and my doctor asked me, ‘I think you should freeze your eggs when I was in my early 20s’, that is what he said to me.

“He has been my family doctor for a long time and he said you are healthy is now and it would be great, why not put them away and then you never have to worry about it again?”

She acknowledged that she’s young but but said that she wanted to ensure she’d be able to have a family of her own.

“I think it depends on people’s beliefs and I’m a big believer in using what we have in making the most of it.

“I have never said that [I’ve had my eggs frozen] on TV, and I’m 26 so I know people might say, ‘wow, that’s so young’. I just wanted to really be safe. Maybe that is me being crazy.”

Rita’s not alone – whether women in their twenties are putting their careers first or are just not ready to be mums, more and more of them are choosing to put their fertility on ice.

Research also shows that a lack of suitable men for baby-making is also a factor.

Ninety per cent of the women in a study at Yale University who had frozen their eggs told the researchers they had done it as they had struggled to meet someone.
