Kat O'Connor

‘Waited my whole life’

Amanda Gruendell had accepted the fact that she would never experience pregnancy. The 32-year-old discovered she was born without a uterus when she was in her teens, crushing her hopes of ever conceiving her own child.

There was adoption, surrogacy and plenty of routes she could take, but she always wanted to get pregnant and start her family.

In an interview with Inside Edition, Gruendell expressed her joy over becoming the first woman to have a uterus transplant.

She took part in a trial at the Cleveland Clinic and had a successful uterine transplant.

After the transplant and a round of IVF, Gruendell got the news she’d been yearning for for years.

She was expecting her first child.

Sadly, Amanda’s mum passed away during the medical trial, but she shared the sweetest story with her daughter before she died.

“I met your daughter. Her name is Grace, and she looks just like you,” her mum said.

Amanda welcomed her daughter Grace in March. Her little girl weighed a healthy 6lbs. 11oz.

“I’ve waited my whole life to meet Grace,” she gushed.

The doting mum said it feels like her life feels complete since she gave birth to baby Grace.

Amanda’s story is a true sign that dreams genuinely can come true, especially with the help of science!
