Woman finds out she's pregnant during fertility surgery

A woman in the UK learned that she was pregnant while undergoing surgery over her fertility issues.

19-year-old Tia Reed had just undergone anaesthetic when doctors made the happy discovery.

Tia, from Birmingham in England, was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2017 after struggling for several years with heavy, painful periods.

The condition causes endometrial lining, the lining that grows in a woman’s womb every month, to grow outside the uterus and can lead to issues with fertility.

Despite their young age, Tia and her partner Liam Twining, 22, became concerned that she might be infertile after failing to get pregnant, reports The Independent.

Tia was due to have a form of keyhole surgery so doctors could get a clearer picture of Tia’s condition and any potential fertility issues.

She had just been put under when the surgical team was interrupted. The result of an earlier urine test Tia had done was in – and she was five weeks pregnant.

When Tia woke, a doctor told her the procedure had been cancelled.

“I started to panic. I just thought the worst and thought they had come across something,” she told the publication.

“Then he said: ‘The good news is you’re pregnant’.”

Tia and Liam welcomed their baby, a little boy they named Ronnie James, last month.
