Lidl to remove all cartoon characters from cereal boxes this year

Lidl Ireland are set to remove all cartoon characters from their own-brand cereal boxes by spring 2020.

The supermarket chain are changing their packaging in a bid to encourage children to make healthier breakfast choices, as well as tacking pester power.

The move will include all Lidl own-brand cereals including Crownfield Honey Hoops and Frosted Flakes.

“Promoting and providing healthier food options for our customers is something we are passionate about at Lidl Ireland and we are proud to be leading the way in the Irish retail market with our significant commitments,” said Ciara Sheehan, corporate social responsibility manager at Lidl Ireland.

“We want to help parents across Ireland make healthy and informed choices about the food they buy for their children. This latest move underpins our commitment to helping customers lead healthier lives.”

This comes after Lidl Ireland committed to reducing the sugar content in their own-brand products by 20 percent by the end of this year.

This includes cereals, spreads, and sauces part of the 350 products currently in the Lidl own-brand range review.

The full list of cereals that will not include cartoon characters on their packaging by the end of spring 2020 are:

•        Crownfield Choco Rice
•        Crownfield Rice Snaps
•        Crownfield Frosted Flakes
•        Crownfield Choco Hoops
•        Crownfield Choco Shells
