Nashville hot chicken? These are the top 4 food trends for 2020

Olivia Hayes

Food trends are forever changing.

Remember when Dublin exploded with doughnut shops and burger restaurants? Many have come and gone, but one thing is for sure, we latch onto a trend just as much as anyone else.

While some trends are boring and predictable, we’re actually really looking forward to what’s in store for 2020.

Review website Yelp conducted some research to find what’s in store for the year ahead, and these are the four main trends that came out on top.

Elevated breakfast

There’s honestly nothing better than a hearty breakfast and it seems like things are going to get fancy in 2020. An elevated breakfast has come out as a top food trend and will include souffle pancakes as well as cinnamon swirl pancakes.

Reviews for both dishes have risen to 156.2 percent in the past year alone.

Healthy-swap comfort food

According to Yelp, 2020 will be the year of the cauliflower. We’re all after something that’s tasty but also healthy, and it seems the alternative is going to be adding cauliflower into everything.

Cauliflower mash and cauliflower pizza are just two of the healthy alternatives that have risen in searches in the past year.

Nashville hot chicken

We got excited about this one. There’s nothing better than fried chicken and Nashville hot chicken goes one step further. As well as being fried, it’s hot and spicy… and honestly, we hope somewhere in Ireland starts serving it soon because it sounds so good.

Korean cuisine

Korean cuisine and Korean BBQ became big in 2019 and it looks like they’re not going anywhere in 2020. With delightful dishes such as tteokbooki (Korean fried rice cakes), sundubu-jjigae (tofu stew) and kimchi, we can see more and more Korean restaurants popping up over the upcoming months.
