From what you put on your plate to how you get to school, there are sustainable choices to be made at every turn.
It’s within all of our best interests to care for the planet we live on, and as parents it’s vital that we teach our children to be eco-conscious.
In every area of our life, there are ways for us to reduce our carbon footprint and be kind our environment. This back to school season we’ve put together a number of tips for an environmentally conscious back to school.
Looking for ways to brush up on sustainability before school starts? You’ve come to the right place.
Think twice before buying new
We all know that the new school year can be a time of mass-consumption, so think carefully about whether you do need to buy new. Do an audit of existing uniforms, shoes, stationary and lunch boxes before going all out. If you can, try buy second hand within your community, and if you must buy new items, make quality a priority to ensure your child gets a long life out of them.
Ditch the car for the school run
If you can, look for alternatives to driving for the school run. Where possible, opt to walk, scoot, cycle or take public transport in the morning to cut back on emissions.
Look for environmental committees in the school community
See if your child’s school has a Green Schools Committee and encourage them to take part. This is a brilliant way for them to have a say in sustainable policy while learning more about our planet.
