10 movies on Netflix and TV tonight that are perfect for Sunday night viewing

With Storm Helene on her way, the evenings are getting noticeably cooler, meaning it’s almost time to light the fire and sit down with a glass of wine and a good movie.

Not that we need that excuse.

No, we love nothing more than a bit of light entertainment on a Sunday evening before heading into another busy week and tonight you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to what to watch.

With plenty on the telly tonight and a long list of great new releases on Netflix, there’s something here for everyone.

 

1. Dirty Dancing – Virgin Media One, 9pm

Plot: Spending the summer at a Catskills resort with her family, Frances “Baby” Houseman falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle.

2. The Purge: Election Year – Netflix

Plot: When a presidential candidate lobbies to end a custom allowing one brutal night of violence a year, she becomes a target and must fight for her life.

3. Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me – Comedy Central, 9pm

Plot: Dr. Evil is back and has invented a new time machine that allows him to go back to the 1960s and steal Austin Powers’ mojo, inadvertently leaving him “shagless”.

4. Life Happens – Netflix

Plot: Two friends living in the trendy Silverlake neighbourhood of Los Angeles try to maintain their lifestyle despite one of them having a new baby.

5. Deliverance – TCM, 9pm

Plot: Intent on seeing the Cahulawassee River before it’s turned into one huge lake, outdoor fanatic Lewis Medlock takes his friends on a river-rafting trip they’ll never forget into the dangerous American back-country.

6. The Hangover – Netflix

Plot: When three friends finally wake up after a wild bachelor party, they can’t locate their best friend, who’s supposed to be tying the knot.

7. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes – Channel 4, 10pm

Plot: A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier.

8. Million Dollar Baby – Netflix

Plot: Despondent over a painful estrangement from his daughter, trainer Frankie Dunn isn’t prepared for boxer Maggie Fitzgerald to enter his life.

9. Byzantium – Film 4 – 10.55pm

Plot: Residents of a coastal town learn, with deathly consequences, the secret shared by the two mysterious women who have sought shelter at a local resort.

 

10. Burn After Reading – Netflix

Plot: In this tale of poorly executed espionage, an ouster CIA official loses his memoir to moronic gym employees, who use it to try to turn a profit.
