Coronation Street’s James Burrows is leaving the soap after two years.

The actor’s final scenes as Dr. Ali Neeson have already been filmed, according to The Sunand he will exit the cobbles next month.

“Ali’s been one of the most popular characters on the cobbles but the time has come for him to leave,” an insider told the publication. “He’s at war with murderer Gary Windass over ex  Maria Connor and the pair will be involved in a brutal showdown on the cobbles soon. Viewers will be worried Gary will claim his third victim.”

However, it looks like Gary won’t be claiming another victim (or, at least, it won’t be Ali) – and that the door will be left open for the character to return at some point.

“It’s not the last fans will see of Ali in Weatherfield,” the source added. A spokesperson for the soap confirmed Burrows’ exit to the publication.

The actor and his fiancée Sophie Coates revealed in June last year that they had welcomed their first child together – a baby girl named Betty.

In August, Burrows sent fans into overdrive as he revealed that he had “asked my best friend to be my wife”.

“So at the weekend I asked my best friend to be my wife on a boat in the middle of the lake and she said yes and it’s made me one very happy man,” he captioned a collection of photos from their trip, including one of Sophie’s ring front and centre.
