Get lost in the woodlands of Kildare
This time of year, taking in the changing leaves is high on our priority list, which is why exploring Donadea Forest Park on your next short break to Kildare is a must. There are 243 hectares of mixed woodland, and the 5km Aylmer Loop is perfect for families looking to take in the crisp fresh air of autumn. Nearby, you'll find Clonfert Pet Farm, which will go down excellently with little ones, and Avenue Café, Restaurant and Bar, which has plenty of options for younger diners on the kids menu.
Step back in time in Carlow

Kick off your Carlow getaway with a visit to Duckett's Grove Walled Gardens and Pleasure Grounds, where beautiful gardens surround the ruins of a 19th Century great house. Explore the grounds with your little ones and as the evening draws in, take a moment to appreciate the hazy autumnal light and the moody atmosphere of the estate. During your break, be sure to check out the seasonal produce at Carlow Farmers Market which takes place on Saturdays, and The Chocolate Garden of Ireland for something sweet.
Embrace the magic in Cork

On your next autumn break to Cork, schedule some time to be spent wandering the striking Blarney Castle and Gardens. Bask in the magnificence of the towering castle, enjoy a brisk family walk through the botanic gardens, and kiss the iconic Blarney Stone. While in the area, spend some time in the Planet Entertainment Centre where your little ones can let loose, and for a warming, family meal make a booking at Luigi Malones.
Bask in the forests of Monaghan

Boasting several forest walks, Rossmore Forest Park and Sculpture Trail is a beautiful spot to soak up the beauty of autumn on your next short break in Monaghan. For a family stroll, we recommend the Priestfield Walk which is a 4km walk. There are picnic tables here to enjoy some nibbles and when dinner time rolls around, check out Andy's Restaurant which has a great children's menu. During your break, explore the local heritage and culture with an adventure along the Monaghan Town Heritage Trail.
Get your fill of adventure in Kilkenny

On your next break to Kilkenny, spend some time in Castlecomer Discovery Park, where a truly autumnal adventure awaits. Enjoy a family walk along one of the many trails, or book some thrilling activities, like zip-lining, high ropes and archery. There's plenty here for younger children to enjoy as well, including the Junior Woodland Adventure Course, the Elf and Fairy Village and the Timber Tumbles Playground. Add even more magic to your Kilkenny trip with a family wander down the Medieval Mile and for a hot chocolate, a sweet treat and a spot of book shopping, pop into The Book and Coffee Shop.
Get moving in Laois and Offaly

On the Laois and Offaly border lies the majestic Slieve Bloom Mountains, and this autumn there are so many great ways to enjoy them. Take in the changing foliage with a walk through Kinitty Forest, rent a bike from Mid Ireland Adventure or try your hand at horseback riding with a lesson from Birr Equestrian.
