Grab the popcorn and curl up on the sofa

There’s a chill in the air and we must admit we’ve considered putting the heat on this week.

It’s time to bid a fond farewell to the summer,  but we’re actually looking forward to the autumn time.

It’s a cozy and comforting season that gives us plenty of time to curl up on the sofa after a long day at work.

We’re swapping beach days with nights in front of the fire and we’ve got a bunch of heartwarming movies that you just need to watch when you’re in need of a pick-me-up.

  1. Paddington

There’s a reason Paddington is one of the most beloved movies of all time. It’s heartwarming, witty and the easiest watch. This is a perfect antidote after a long week so why not watch it after the kids’ first week in school?

2. Singin’ In The Rain

The ultimate feel-good musical. The 1952 film stars Hollywood’s finest and will transport you back in time. Starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor, if you’re looking for escapism then look no further than Singin’ In The Rain.

3. Crazy Rich Asians

The romantic-comedy based on the bestselling novel by Kevin Kwan has the most lavish sets that’ll leave you dreaming about escaping the Emerald Isle. Starring Henry Golding, Constance Wu and Gemma Chan.

4. Matilda

Can you ever go wrong with a childhood classic? Matilda never fails to brighten the day with her mischief and magic. The ultimate movie to watch with the kids on a rainy day.

5. Julie and Julia

Can you ever go wrong with a Meryl Streep movie? The Mamma Mia actress stars alongside Amy Adams in this charming Nora Ephron movie about two women whose passion for food intertwines their lives.

6. When Harry Met Sally

I’ll have what she’s having! The kids are in bed and you’ve got a bucket of popcorn all to yourself. What better movie to watch than Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal’s When Harry Met Sally. Charming, moving, and the ultimate romantic comedy.

7. The Secret Life of Pets

This is one of those movies you stick on to keep the kids quiet but end up loving. If you’re glued to the screen instead of reading that novel you’ve been trying to delve into for weeks then don’t blame us. This animation is full of fun and has a surprisingly good soundtrack.

8. Soul

Without a doubt, the best movie we watched during the lockdown. This has got to be one of the best Pixar movies that has been released in years. Soul follows a jazz musician who takes a wrong step and ends up in the Great Before. This whimsical movie will leave you beaming (and possibly sobbing).

9. The Intern

Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro star alongside one another in this surprisingly moving Nancy Meyers flick. 70-year-old widower Ben applies for an internship when he realises he’s not cut out for retirement. He lands a role as a senior intern for an online fashion site, where he forms an unlikely friendship with the boss.

10. Blended

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler reunite in this hilarious family comedy. After a terrible blind date, Jim and Lauren find themselves stranded at a resort together with their respective children.
