Perfect for when you want a fringe but aren’t ready to go full Zooey Deschanel just yet.
If you were planning to switch up your hair this spring, then bottleneck bangs may be what you’re looking for.
This cute fringe is the brainchild of Tom Smith, who works as the colour director for Evo Hair.
According to Smith, these bangs do exactly what they say on the tin – they mirror the shape of a bottleneck.
“Bottleneck bangs are the ultimate 70’s inspired, super flattering, face-framing, cutting technique that can be adjusted to suit almost any face shape,” Smith explains. “This hairstyle takes inspiration from the neck of a bottle, starting slim and short in the middle, curving longer around the eyes, and then longest following the line of the cheekbone.”

Bottleneck bangs are currently being hailed as the sister of the 90s curtain bangs – which had a bit of a resurgence in 2021. But fear not, this fringe frames your face so gently that you’re left looking like a French supermodel rather than a member of N’Sync.
On top of that, bottleneck bangs are ideal if you want to get bangs, but are too afraid to go full Zooey Deschanel right away. Due to the long layers, they’re easy to work around if you’re not in love with them from the jump. However, when you consider just how cute they look, it’s unlikely that you’ll want to hide them.

To nab some bottleneck bangs, Smith advises: “Ask your stylist to create longer bangs that skim your cheekbones at an angle that flatters your face and curves around to create a layer that sits somewhere between your cheekbones and jaw. Then, ask for the central part to be cut slightly shorter, keeping the cutting line soft and choppy, with the shortest part in the middle gradually getting longer on the edges.”
