Colourist Liz Cook told Glamour how chocolate cake hair was all about deep and vibrant colours. She explained that it was about relying on balayage to emphasise the face and to add brightness to the deep tones. And while the trend first emerged earlier this year, we reckon it would be the perfect way to switch things up if you're thinking of changing your colouring this autumn.

Cook advised anyone who is thinking of making the change to ask their stylist for a brunette shade that isn't too neutral. She continued:

"This means adding copper and red undertones to your color to give you the richness in tone. "Ask your stylist for balayage highlights framing your face and gradually getting bolder on your ends to bring out the tones."
