"Chickpea prices increased during 2017 and remain high. Demand is strong from every market and currently there isn’t enough supply to go around. This is driven by poor crops in some of the main producing origin nations over the past 12 months."This is likely to affect other chickpea dishes if the shortage continues. Falafels, tinned chickpeas and many more items could be affected. At least with tinned variations, you can stock up, but it's harder to hoard hummus as it's fresh and only has a short shelf life.
