Breast milk ice cream launches ahead of Royal baby’s arrival

All profits are to be donated to a breastfeeding charity

This is one item of Royal baby commemorative merchandise that we didn’t expect to see.

Forget the coins, plates and all the other tat, it’s Royal Baby Gaga breast milk ice cream that has caught our attention as we wait for the arrival of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s second baby.

The creamy creation is the brainchild of Victoria Hiley, a breastfeeding campaigner from Leeds who has collaborated with London-based ice cream company The Licktators to relaunch breast milk ice cream in celebration of the forthcoming birth of the Royal baby.

The 30-year-old mum said she wanted to remind the Duchess of Cambridge and other mums of the benefits of breastfeeding. She comments, “We thought the birth of a Royal baby was a great time to whip up support for mums and say that when it comes to ice cream this summer, breast is best.”

The ice cream, which will be on sale later this week and throughout the summer at selected stores in London and online, will be available in pink and blue tubs for £19.99 (€28), with all profits donated to a breastfeeding charity.

The ice cream is made with donated breast milk – screened in line with hospital standards – and blended with Madagascan Vanilla. The recipe has also been posted online so that “lactivists” can make it at home.

Victoria was involved in the launch of Baby Gaga breast milk ice cream in 2011 and has teamed up again with ice cream maker Matt O’Connor to create the product.
