Giant ‘Avozillas’ are returning to Tesco this weekend so get smashing

Jade Hayden

How much avo is too much avo?

The question we will ask ourselves this weekend as we stand, anticipatory, over a basket of aptly named ‘Avozillas’, wondering what in God’s name we could possibly need one for.

The short answer is that we don’t.

The long answer is that an Avozilla could very much be the catalyst needed to finally turn our lives around for the better – and we’ll do anything to ensue that we get our hands on one.

Or, you know, just go pick one up in Tesco this Saturday for four quid. Standard.

The Avozilla, so-called due to its enormous size, made food-based waves last year when it landed in Tesco for the first time.

The fruit, which is five times the size of a regular avocado (!), is a cross between two types of avocado; the West Indian and Guatemalan varieties.

Avozillas are naturally produced and not genetically modified in any way – but they are extremely rare, so if you were looking to pick one up, you might want to get down to your local Tesco early enough this Saturday, September 14, to avail of one.

There’s only a limited supply, after all.

“This limited stock of ‘Avozillas’ is exclusive to Tesco,” said Tesco’s John Brenna.

“They are extremely rare and come from just four trees grown by one of the world’s biggest suppliers of avocados in South Africa.

“Deliveries will be going into 70 of our stores across the country on Saturday morning and will be available this weekend while stocks last.”
