These Are The Last-Minute Christmas Items You’ve Probably Forgotten

Katie Mythen-Lynch

You’ve made that list (and checked it twice) but according to a new survey, there are some Christmas essentials you’ll probably need to make a dash for before the big day.

Tesco has revealed the last minute purchases made by Irish shoppers stocking up for the festive season. Historically, last minute items were once dominated by phone credit, batteries and sellotape purchases; data from 2015 has revealed that shoppers appear to be concentrating on fresh daily produce and family favourites at the final hurdle of preparation for the festivities.

The top ten items sold on Christmas Eve include:

  1. Fresh Milk
  2. Fresh Cream
  3. White Bread
  4. Cola soft drinks (1 and 2 litre bottles)
  5. Fruit flavour soft drinks (1 and 2 litre bottles)
  6. Bacon
  7. Crisps in a tube
  8. Lemons and Limes
  9. Big bag crisps and snacks
  10. Brussels Sprouts

Bacon makes its debut on the list this year having not featured at all in 2014. The appearance of Brussels sprouts in the number ten spot suggests a possible Christmas dinner bacon and sprout combination could be at play to help liven up the humble green vegetable.
