Mum shows what ‘respectful’ breastfeeding looks like

Yes girl, get it.

It's 2018, in case you didn't know, and yet mothers are still being shamed, given out to, and just generally questioned about their breastfeeding habits. For some reason, a lot of people don't seem to realise that babies need to eat. And a lot of the time, when babies are eating, they're eating via breastfeeding. Sometimes they're not, but a lot of the time they are. You'd think that just about everyone would be used to it by now too, but they're not, which is a shame. Still though, just because some mums are still facing criticising for feeding their children, that doesn't mean that they have to sit back and take it. One mum who decided she didn't care what people thought of her was this woman from the Breastfeeding Mama Talk Facebook page. She wrote that she was sick of being told to 'respectfully' breastfeed in public, so she decided to share a photo of how she "respectfully" feeds her child. This is it. Incredible. The photo pretty much speaks for itself, really. But just in case it doesn't, this is what the mum wrote alongside it. "I get so irritated when people say there is a "respectful" way to breastfeed." she says.

"It just makes no sense. With any other parenting decision you don't hear, 'Well , you can parent how you want, but just do it respectfully.' “This is how a mother respectfully nurses a baby. With dignity and confidence."

She goes on to say that the way a person decides to feed their child doesn't define them... nor does it make them any less respectful of themselves or the people around them. She goes on:

"If you choose to cover up, that’s awesome. If you don't, that’s awesome to. The purpose of nursing isn’t about who shows more boob or who doesn’t. "The purpose is to feed a child. And whether it’s done covered, in a private place, or uncovered in the middle of a restaurant, does not define the amount of respect you have. "The stigma needs to end. We are just trying to feed our babies."

Understandably, lots of other people agreed too. The post has received over 2,500 likes and almost 2,000 shares. Fair play.
