So 59% of Irish people have smuggled sausages abroad…

23 per cent have eaten a sausage in the loo

A meaty new survey has revealed some surprising facts about our rather intense relationship with the humble sausage.

According to Denny Gold Medal’s Celebrate the Sausage Survey, more than half of Irish people have stuffed a link or two into their suitcase before they jet off on holiday.

We also love eating sausages in the strangest of places at home, with 34 per cent revealing they’ve eaten a sausage on their bike and 23 per cent admitting they’ve eaten a sausage while on the toilet.

In news that will come as no surprise to the wife or partner of the average Irish man, almost half of Irish people would choose to eat a sausage over kissing their lover.

Here are some of the most interesting findings:

  • 50 per cent of the population would choose a sausage sambo over a breakfast roll.
  • One third of Irish people like taking pictures of our food and sharing them with friends!
  • After a night out of partying, 54 per cent of us would choose sausages as the top cure for our morning hangover.
  • As far as sports stars are concerned, 47 per cent of the population decided that Johnny Sexton most deserves a sausage.
  • Six in 10 of us would vote for Ireland to have a National Sausage Day, and a surprising 42 per cent think they could easily beat the current Guinness World Record for eating sausages set at 110 over ten minutes!
