The Irish Mirror reports that researchers at Harvard conducted an experiment involving more that 780,000 people and found that the cereal led to "a 7% drop in the risk of death from any cause, a 9% drop in death from cardiovascular disease and a 5% drop in from cancer."
Other sources of whole grain include brown rice, barley, oatmeal, wholegrain pasta and popcorn (that list doesn’t sound too bad if you ask us!).
Prof Qi Sun, Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, explained: “Healthcare providers should unanimously recommend whole grain consumption to help achieve better health and perhaps reduce death.”
