Using a pale wall colour with one accent wall or tapestry will keep the room feeling some bit airy. With more than one person – and their belongings – in the room, it has the potential to feel cramped quickly. You don't want to further enclose it with dark or busy walls the whole way around.
Compliment rather than match

When it comes to bedding, many parents are inclined to match twin beds in a shared room. But having the beds compliment each other as opposed to outright matching can help the kids retain some sense of individuality. Use bedsheets of the same shade in a different pattern, or have each child's main bedding colour as the other's accent colour for cushions, throws etc.

Use shelving as a room divider
Room dividers are again great to give each kid a sense of privacy. But when sharing a room, space is limited, so why not let your divider double up for storage? Book shelves are great for doing so.

Using your kids' names in the decor of their room can again help them take ownership of their part in a shared space. In bigger rooms, a mirror effect where the beds are placed feet-to-feet and separated by a drape divider can work really well both in terms of functionality and privacy. Going for beds with built-in drawers will again help maximise storage.
