5 genius tips to help speed up your morning blow-dry

Sive O'Brien

Finding a spare moment to get ready in the morning is almost impossible when there are kids around.

If you do find the time to blow-dry your hair, these 5 tips will help you do it on the double without sacrificing a good hair day (or too many precious morning minutes):

1. Turban towel

Wrap freshly washed hair in a microfibre towel while you brush teeth, do make-up, or get the kids dressed. After just a few minutes, the super-absorbent fabric will soak up extra moisture before you even get to your hairdryer.

2. Prep

Get hair ready to blow-dry by spritzing with a product that’s specially formulated to help speed up the blow-drying process. We recommend Matrix Oil Wonders Flash Blow Dry Oil, which can reduce the time it takes to dry hair by at least 50 per cent.

3. Aim high

A good quality, high-wattage hair dryer (a minimum of 1,800 watts is recommended) will get the job done quicker. Additionally, look for an ‘ionic’ one, which will cause water molecules to divide into smaller particles that evaporate faster.

4. Rough dry

Instead of trying to dry all your hair perfectly, blast the dryer and work your fingers through pieces of hair all over the head. This method is the fastest way to reach the most surface area.

5. Focus

After the above step, go back to focus on the important pieces – the hairline and crown – to give the appearance of a perfect blow-dry. Paying special attention to the ‘crucial zones’ will help hide a multitude of sins.
