Amy Huberman, Cathryn Thomas and more give gúnas to Buy My Dress

If you've ever wanted a designer dress for a knock-down price, this is your chance.

Style fans in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Portlaoise are sharpening their elbows this week ahead of this year's Buy My Dress. The one-day shopping event is an opportunity to pick up dresses, including designer and high-end pieces, for less. Now in its ninth year, it's a fund-raising drive for The Down Syndrome Centre. This year, Irish personalities including Amy Huberman, Charlie Murphy, Deirdre O’Kane, Sarah Greene, Victoria Smurfit, Ruth Bradley, Caroline Morahan, Cathryn Thomas and Lorraine Keane have donated dresses to the cause. Most pieces available to buy on the day will be on sale for between €10 and €30, with high-end dresses going for a little more. "Most people can’t get over the style and prices and end up going home with a bag full of bargains and a new wardrobe for the year ahead," she told us. "It’s a great girl’s day out and guilt free shopping because you’re supporting a great cause."

Buy My Dress has over the years raised over €500,000 for The Down Syndrome Centre.   The organisation, based in Sandyford, supports over 200 children and their families each week. Anyone can donate a dress to Buy My Dress - simply freepost it to the Down Syndrome Centre (Unit 1, 88/89 Furze Road, Sandyford Industrial Estate, Dublin 18) or bring one along on the day. The event takes place this Saturday at Dublin's Radisson Blu from 11am to 5pm, as well as at the Clayton Hotel Cork City, Galway's Radisson Blu and O’Loughlin’s Hotel in Portlaoise.
