It’s a great catch phrase, but did you know that beauty sleep is actually, for real, an actual thing?
It’s true.
In fact; researchers who have looked into this have found that people who miss out on sleep actually appear less attractive to others. And what’s worse, a couple of bad nights is enough to make a person look “significantly” more ugly, their sleep experiments suggest.
Yikes.
It seems dark-circled “panda” eyes and puffy lids can even put others off socialising with you, the researchers found, and people were rated by strangers as less healthy and approachable when they had tired faces.
Sure look – we could all probably do with sleeping more – for our overall health and our complexions. However, as we also all know – that, sometimes, is easier said that done. Which is why I am glad there is help to be found is some hard-working beauty products.
I recently went on a little mission to find the best night-time products out there, and having tested my way through a lot of lotions and potions, here are my top three – guaranteed to make you look fresher and more awake come morning:
1. Antipodes Avocado Pear Night Cream
This gorgeous clean beauty brand has long since been on my radar (I am more than a little obsessed with their amazing cleansing balm, to be honest). I had been waiting to finally test their night cream (as I was currently using up other ones), and so was delighted when I finally got my hands on one.
Scientifically shown to stimulate synthesis of collagen production in human cells by up to 92 percent, Antipodes Avacado Pear Night Cream contains native New Zealand manuka honey which draws moisture to your skin to help bring a truly ageless visage, while revolutionary Vinanza Grape is a potent antioxidant extract from grape seeds to help neutralise the effects of free radical damage that can lead to premature ageing.
Not only was the smell of this cream so pleasant and lovely, it also felt like a little mini spa treatment applying it every evening – and I had only used this for a couple of nights when I saw a reduction in hyperpigmentation, as well as feeling like my skin had more bounce and looked far more both radiant and rejuventated.
Even better? This cream is 100 percent vegan and contains no scary chemicals.
2. Charlotte Tilbury Multi-Miracle Glow
Literally in awe at this multi-use balm, and ever since using it on my skin for a flight recently, I have started using it as a night mask a couple of times a week, just to give my skin a little extra TLC.
With ingredients like organic Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil to stimulates micro-circulation and enhances epidermal renewal and Artic Cloudberry Oil, high in vitamin C, to nourish and revitalize dry skin, this will give you instant results – you have my word.
Vitamin A will also work hard to improve your skin’s firmness and ‘bounce,’ while rosehip and camellia oils are added to moisturise your skin for a smooth and supple complexion.
I mainly noticed how totally luminous my skin looked after a flight – something which has never before been the task with my dry, slightly sensitive skin.
A total star buy if there ever was one, and one you’ll be guaranteed to buy over and over again.

3. Trilogy Age Proof Replenishing Night Cream
I had been so excited to try this, being a huge fan of Trilogy’s clean and effective beauty products for a while now.
And I am happy to report that it did not disappoint. In fact – it really impressed.
This multi-tasking night treatment really felt like it was nourishing my skin, and the unique blend of nourishing bio-actives helps assists the skin’s natural process of regeneration, which again will help restore skin’s elasticity and suppleness. I actually woke up and noticed a difference in my skin from just ONE night’s use.
Evening Primrose Oil , Hyaluronic Acid (Sodium Hyaluronate) , Marula Seed Oil , Olive Fruit Oil , Avocado oil are all ideal for replenishing, rejuvenating, re-energising and restoring.
