The rather unfortunate part of all of this is that it goes much further than her just tripping. There was major drama over her dress in the first place. Meryl and designer Karl Lagerfeld had a fairly public spat over what she was going to wear at the Oscars. Karl was lined up to give Meryl a Chanel dress for the awards but last minute spoke to the press and said that she decided not to wear it because another designer offered to pay her to wear their dress. He then later said that it was all false.
