Hidden among the many mauves and the persistent plums and purples of Spring 2015 are some seriously cool beauty trends, ideal for the braver broads among us. Our top three looks are all low effort, maximum effect. Try one this month for cutting-edge cred.
Black nails for day
YSL’s La Laque in N° 58 Nuit Blanche: a radiant white, and N° 59 Nuit Noir: an intense black with sequined effect launch this month at BT, Arnotts and Debenhams (€24 each).
Lloyd Simmonds, Creative Director Makeup YSL Beauté explains the decision to go dark for spring: “I like the idea of a woman being prim and proper, but having full on black nails. This contrast between the feminine charm and a rebel spirit describes perfectly the universe of a ‘belle de jour’ to me. It’s all about attitude. Black gives a seductive edge.” We quite agree.
EXPERT TIP: “Wear the white shade as a top coat over any nail colour and it will give to the nails a sparkling effect.”
Bright brows
Badgley Mischka’s pastel brows were the talk of the SS15 shows. Make-up maestro Tom Pecheaux painted the models’ eyebrows in a variety of colours, leaving the rest of the face almost bare to help them stand out. This is not a look for shrinking violets but fortune favours the bold so if you fancy a go, now’s the time to try it out.
DIY: To try the look yourself, mix a smudge of bright eyeshadow (try Barry M) with a drop of water and apply to your brows using a cotton bud. For a bolder effect, try a Bleach Hair Crayon (below, €5.49 from Boots).
Orange is the new lip
If you like a bold lip you’ll love the New Year trend for orange. It’s a tricky one to master (have a long chat with a MAC consultant in-store before you take the plunge) but once you find the right shade for your complexion it’ll brighten your look like nobody’s business.
TIP: Try Nars Audacious Lipstick in ‘Geraldine’ (€30) or MAC’s juicy ‘Morange’ shade. Keep the rest of your face neutral for the best effect.
