Woman shares €12 solution to find out where mice are in your house

In the colder and wetter weather, mice will go just about anywhere to escape it.

We can't blame them. However, when our lovely warm homes are their prime targets, it's not as easy to accept. One homeowner, who has garnered upwards of 2.5 million followers on TikTok, shared her solution to catching rodents in the act and putting a halt to their visit before it becomes an outright infestation. As a person who developed a fear of mice from a sighting in my house at a young age, I wish this information was common knowledge back then. Ann Russell posts under the handle @annrussell03 shares everything from careers to cleaning to help her followers. One user asked Ann for advice on how to rid her student accommodation of mice, which prompted the obvious replies first about keeping areas free of food and advising them to find their point of entry. "The mice are coming in because it’s cold and wet and they want somewhere dry. To keep them out of your room you need to make sure that they cannot access anything edible at all. "Also, see if you can work out where they are getting into your room and block it off. If there is food they will have it because they are resourceful little buggers and they also think soap and candles are food so be aware of that." However, it was Ann's next piece of advice that piqued my interest and also has a wealth of tried and tested reviews. "Block it off and just keep an eye, if you’re worried you can buy a UV light. I’ve got one because I collect uranium glass," she explained. "Shine it and you’ll see a little line of UV glow where their wee is which you can clean up with hot soapy water. But more importantly you might be able to work out where they are coming from and going to then you can block both ends." Finding their entrance means you can have it blocked up before any more follow them.

Reviews back up the UV light's effectiveness in catching mice.

The UV light, which currently costs just €12.18 on Amazon, have proven successful for other homeowners who have had rodent's seek shelter in their homes. One reviewer wrote: "I learned that mice cannot control their urine or bowels.This UV flashlight worked excellent in doing a walk-through of the house to narrow down exactly where the mice entered our kitchen. "Thankfully they have not gone beyond the perimeter of one cabinet where we found the entry into our kitchen. Could have not come to this conclusion without the use of the flashlight," they added.

Another user also praised the product saying that it showed them 'where mice were entering the garage.' One commenter revealed that the light works a little too well: "We bought this to be able to see if our cat was spraying, and it ended up just being a tool to clean up the bathroom very thoroughly. "Boy, do you find stains EVERYWHERE. Turns out human pee glows too," they added.
