Major search underway for missing baby after Constance Marten and Mark Gordon are arrested

Police are searching areas in Brighton and Newhaven.

A major search operation is underway in England following the arrests of Constance Marten and Mark Gordon.

The pair had been on the run for 54 days but were spotted by a member of the public in Brighton on February 27th.

However, their newborn baby was not with them.

A major search operation is now underway.

Following their arrests, police issued a statement;

"Shortly before 21:30hrs on Monday, 27 February, a member of the public reported a sighting of Constance Marten and Mark Gordon in Stanmer Villas, Brighton.

"Officers from Sussex Police attended the location and the pair were arrested. They remain in custody.

"The baby is still missing and an urgent search operation is taking place in the area."

Police are extremely concerned for the infant because it has not had any medical attention since they were born in early January.

Constance Marten and Mark Gordon have refused to tell police where the baby is. They are both being held on suspicion of child neglect.

Police launched an investigation into Gorden and Marten's disappearance on January 5th.

Their car was found on fire on the M61, but they were not at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police then launched a missing persons report.

Officers believe the pair travelled to Liverpool and then to Harwich, and then to Essex.

They also travelled to Colchester in early January.

They left Essex and moved to east London where they were reportedly sleeping in a tent.

Following their time in London, they then moved to Sussex.

Officers believed they were living in a blue tent with their baby for some time.

The most recent sighting was recorded in Brighton on Monday, February 27th. The couple has been in custody since a member of the public alerted the police.
