Up to 10 people have died after a gunman wielding a bomb opened fire in a high school in Texas.

The attacker, who was also a student, opened fire in an art class this morning in the Santa Fe High School.

“Eight to ten” people were killed in the attack, with most of them thought to be students.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalas said that 12 more people, including a police officer, were injured in the incident.

He said:

“There are multiple fatalities have been confirmed, it could be anywhere from eight to ten fatalities at the school, students and adults.”

The student wielding the weapons is now in police custody.

It is thought that he also left a bomb at the school but it remains unclear as to whether this was detonated.

Another student has also been taken in by police for questioning.

Students were evacuated from the school shortly after the attack at 11am.

The school district remains on lockdown.
