12 year old Cork singer turns down The Ellen Show

Anna O'Rourke

Allie Sherlock, 12, has a serious voice.

The Cork native has been playing guitar for over three years and has busked on Cork’s Patrick Street and Dublin’ Grafton Street, earning her thousands of fans.

Her Facebook page has over 43,000 followers and her latest video, of her performing Ed Sheeran’s Supermarket Flowers recentlyhas over 1.1 million views.

But despite going viral, Allie has revealed that she sees her music is a passion rather than a career.

“I want to keep practising all the time and singing and so it’s like a hobby really,” she told Cork’s Evening Echo.

“I don’t want it to be a professional career but I’d like to do it, just as a hobby. I’d like to do childcare because my auntie owns a creche,” she adds.

Her dad Mark also revealed that Allie’s been attracting attention in the US.

“There’s been a few people on to us about different things. She had the Ellen Show in America contact with her but she’s only 12 and she just enjoys a bit of busking,” he said.

“My main thing is that Allie continues to be Allie because she’s a child. She enjoys her singing and as soon as it isn’t fun anymore, that would be the end of it.”

Sounds like Allie has a wise old head on her young shoulders. You can listen to more of her music here.
